Are we doomed to repeat the mistakes of the last decade? Or, are we heading towards something new?

These are the kind of questions that we will seek answers from Mark Blyth, Professor of International Economics and director of the Rhodes Center for International Economics and Finance at Brown University, Rhode Island, on the 11th of November.

Professor Blyth is an insightful commentator on current affairs, having come to prominence in the media for his explanations of the economic causes of Trump, Brexit and populist movements across the globe. He combines the analytical rigour of an economist and the understanding of power of a political scientist with the sharp-witted humour of his native Scotland.

His books Austerity: The history of a dangerous idea (2013), The Future of the Euro (2015) and his latest release Angrynomics (2020) are all prescient interventions into current public debates. His writings have been featured in publications as varied as the Review of International Political Economy, The Guardian, Foreign Policy and Jacobin Magazine.
